Nailing Your Social Media

Social media is a big scary place and can be pretty daunting, so our Marketing Assistant Georgia has made a little checklist to help you start nailing your social media.

When utilised correctly, social media is a valuable and easy-to-use business tool. Following these key steps eliminates the hassle of becoming a social media whizz!

Plan, Plan, Plan!

As they say, 'failing to plan is planning to fail.' Sit down and nut out what you want to use social media for and the kind of messages you want to send. We recently learned that having a clear idea of what you are doing online can work wonders. It also means everyone on your team is on the same page!

Understand Your Audience

After you have sussed your goals, it is time to set your audience. Ultimately, the content you post and the platforms used, depend on your audience. If you're targeting 40–50-year-olds, there may be no point in using TikTok right now. Facebook could be a better option for you. The themes, trends, language, and imagery you will use come down to whom you're trying to attract – having a good idea of who this is will set you on your way.

Tip: There are some fantastic resources you can find online that give social media user demographic statistics.

Use Your Audience

Insights. Knowing your target audience is great, but they aren't going to respond the same to different strategies. Social media platforms collect a heap of information about your content and followers. Regularly checking this information can help you better understand what works for your business. When you are getting started, we like to test different strategies to see how best to communicate with your audience.

Community Is Everything

Using your audience is super valuable, but the connection keeps them around. Creating a community is one of the most valuable things a business owner can do, in our opinion. A big thing we took away from the recent Girls in Business event, business is all about the community (we highly recommend this event, too btw!). Your community keeps you in business. They buy from you and, maybe even more importantly, suggest you to friends and family – word of mouth is the cheapest and sometimes most effective marketing tool you can have.

If you need a social media strategy, get in touch with the SideKit team. We can set you up to kick off your social media community.

Keep It Real

It may seem obvious, but few businesses do this. Be real. After working with several clients online, the content that comes out on top is them being real. Talking about your experiences, something you're celebrating, or your business's why are just a few examples of how you can give your community a greater sense of connection to you and your business. When your community sees your business has a real person behind it, they resonate, and you've struck gold. Because people genuinely do buy from people.
